Pain In Heels
Pain in one or both the heels or back of the foot is usually due to Calcaneal Spur. A spur is seen as a bony projection of the heel bone. And the pain is due to the bony projection tearing into the soft tissue of the heel causing its repeated injury.
Most patients complain of unbearable, tearing pain in the heels while taking initial steps after resting for some time i.e. on taking the first few steps on waking from sleep and after sitting for a long time. The patient limps and struggles on walking initially.
Patient may complain of pain, tingling, numbness in the heel, with or without swelling in the ankle. Some experience a burning sensation in the area around the ankle. X-ray lateral view of the heel will show a bony projection. Prolonged use of wrong footwear is the cause of the spur.
